All sessions, both private and group, are led by Batia Slater, a dedicated professional with diverse experiences as an Jewish Woman, Wife, Mother, Geriatric Physiotherapist, Personal Trainer, and Pilates Instructor. She integrates her expertise in all of these areas to help guide her clients through safe and effective movements aimed at improving strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, endurance, and overall physical and spiritual health.
Enjoyable and easily accessible exercise sessions focus on learning intelligent and functional movement patters that will ensure optimal health, strength and independence for women of all ages throughout every stage of their lives.
With a background as a geriatric physiotherapist, Batia is particularly skilled in identifying potential risks and tailoring exercise routines to ensure they are safe and appropriate for each individual's needs. She ensures that clients are guided in specific movements aimed at reducing the risk of injury while maximising the benefits of each session. Batia’s understanding of the human body, anatomy, and biomechanics allows her to provide personalised care that prioritises safety and effectiveness in every movement.
As an orthodox observant Jewish woman, Batia understands the unique barriers modest women face when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying active. For many years, she struggled to find a fitness environment that aligned with her values. Women’s gyms and Pilates studios often had delivery men or repair workers in the workout space, and the non-Jewish music and blaring TVs never felt right.
In 2019, with all of her children attending school full-time, Batia took a bold step and opened her own private fitness studio. Her goal was to create a space where modest women could exercise in a safe, private, and Torah’dik environment. This vision has since become her passion—helping other women break down barriers to exercise, all while fostering an encouraging supportive environment that nurtures both the physical and spiritual well-being of modest women.
Batia's exercise methodology is centred on customizing every session to align with the unique capabilities and preferences of each client. She uses her knowledge as a Master of Physiotherapy to meticulously assess and monitor individual abilities to ensure safe and progressive adjustments to their exercise sessions.
Kosher Fitness provides a warm and inclusive community tailored for modest women seeking guided exercise sessions led by a professional. Clientele spans diverse ages, fitness levels, and abilities.
During private sessions, clients enjoy exclusive access to the studio. Group sessions are limited to a maximum of three clients in order to ensure individualized attention to optimize support throughout their health and wellness journey.
Clients have seen incredible results through their exercise sessions, including improved
balance, increased strength and flexibility, and decreased pain with their daily activities.
Batia is passionate about helping her clients achieve their goals and looks forward to supporting you on your journey.
In 2002, after working in the United States as a Geriatric Physiotherapist, Batia married Husband Joe and moved to Melbourne, Australia. In 2019, after many years of looking after her small children, Batia completed her Personal Training Certifications III and IV and opened Kosher Fitness, a small boutique personal training fitness studio that caters specifically to the Orthodox Jewish women's community. In 2021, she took her expertise in movement instruction to an even higher level by completed her Certification IV in Pilates Mat-work and Reformer Instruction.
As an Orthodox Jewish woman, Batia understands first hand the many potential barriers to exercise and living a healthy lifestyle. Over the years her weight would yo-yo up and down along with all of life's challenges, but in 2013, she finally got her weight under control. Through diet and exercise, she lost 38kg and has kept it off ever since.
It is her passion to help other Orthodox Jewish women overcome these barriers as well by creating a completely private, safe, kosher and Torah’dik environment in which to workout.
